The thermal stability decreased as the ether linkage increased. The mechanism of the thermal degradation of the resole type phenol-formaldehyde resin was related to the presence of dime-thylene ether linkage. The thermal stability decreased as the ether linkage increased. The mechanism of the thermal degradation of the resole type phenol-formaldehyde resin was discussed.
