A series of liquid crystalline copolymers were synthesized for the first time by radical copolymerization of the mesogenic monomer 2
5-bis-[(4-methoxybenzoyl)oxy] styrene and allyl alconol. The liquid crystalline behavior of the copolymers was studied by DSC
polarized optical microscopy and X-ray
diffraction. It was found that the copolymers formed thermotropic liquid crystal phases in broad temperature ranges. The glass transition temperature and decomposition temperature of the copolymers changed with the increase of the contents of mesogenic monomer units in the copolymers.
