A new catalytic system composed of anhydrous rare earth chloride and 50% fuming sulfuric acid has been developed for the homopolymerization of tetrahydrofuan (THF) and the copolymerization of THF with chloromethyl thiirane (CMT).The polymerization characteristics of THF were examined.White solid PTHF with high conversion of 65% and high viscosity molecular weight of 10
