cellulose has many attractive properties such as renewability
biodegradability
biocompatibility
and broad chemical-modifying capacity.Therefore
cellulose has been considered as the sustainable raw material of energy and chemical engineering in the future.Nowadays
cellulose has attracted a worldwide attention as a renewable resource that can be converted into high value products
in which specific attention has been paid on cellulosebased advanced functional materials.Based on about 360 relevant papers published during the past 5 years
this review highlights recent progress in cellulose-based advanced functional materials from the view of fabrication methodologies. The various cellulose-based functional materials
such as fiber materials
membrane materials
photoelectric materials
hybrid materials
smart materials
and biomedical materials
are described
along with their preparation
properties and applications.Finally
a perspective on this promising family of materials and the research that needs to be done in the future are briefly discussed. It is hoped that this review work will stimulate research and collaborations that will lead to significant progress in this area.
