Photosynthesis is one of the most important chemical reactions in nature. In higher plants
these photosystems are integrated in to the thylakoid membrane of the chloroplast.Light harvesting in photosynthetic organisms is largely an efficient process. It is assembled together by the antenna pigments and proteins
and synergetic assembly plays an important role in the process. In order to design an efficient photosynthetic device it is very important to realize the structure of the light harvesting and the role of pigment and proteins. This article reviewed the latest developments of artificial light harvesting systems after a brief introduction to natural light harvesting protein.Hybrid scaffolds assembled together with various organic chromophores were discussed in detail. However
it still remained a challenge to organize the extremely efficient
robust
autonomic and yet flexible artificial light harvesting systems. Finally
some possible approaches which might be helpful to improve the biomimetic light harvesting materials overall quality were proposed
and the prospective on the future development was tentatively discussed.
