In the presence of Friedel Crafts' catalysts the chloromethylated copolymer of styrene-di-vinylbenzene may react with each other and form crosslinking by itself. Thus
there is obtained a new type of polymeric adsorbent
the structure of which is identified by its physical properties and infrared spectra. The Friedel-Crafts reaction is manifestly affected by the nature of the solvent
the kind and amount of catalyst
reaction temperature
length of reaction time etc. The structure of the holes and the physical properties of the adsorbent were deter-mined systematically. The properties of the adsorbent made domestically
made abroad and also of the carbonized polymers were compared. It indicates that the adsorbent reported here pos-sesses high specific surface area (1000-1300m2/g)
high porosity
narrow pore distribution
high skeleton density and good mechanical property.
