Potassium salt of dicyclopentadienoic acid DCPD(COOK)2 was used as crosslinking agent for chlorinated polyethylene(CPE) system which contained compounding ingredients.Through direct blending reaction method
crosslinked CPE with mechanical properties closed to the normal vulcanizate was obtained. The effect of reaction time
temperature
catalyst and the dosage of crosslinking agent on mechanical properties of crosslinked products were studied.Test results indicated that the crosslinkage was formed through esterification between the chlorine-carbon on CPE molecular chain and the carboxylic salt groups of crosslinking agent. The mechanical properties of the carbon black filled CPE crosslinked with DCPD(COOK)2 was very closed to the normal vulcanizate cured with sulfur-accelerator system. However
this crosslinked CPE could be reformed for three times indicating it has plasticity
and the mechanical properties such as tensile modulus
tensile strength and permanent deformation etc.of the reformed products could be improved with reform times.Based on above fact
a new type of CPE thermoplastic elastomer with thermally reversible covatent crosslinkage and better compositive physical properties has been obtained.
