7-dimethylselenoheptylsiloxane palladium complex has been prepared from 4-oxa-6
7-dichloroheptyltrimethoxysilane via immobilization on fume silica
followed by reacting with sodium methylselenolate and then the reaction with palladium chloride. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) has been used to characterize the palladium complex and a possible structure pattern of the polymeric palladium complex has been suggested. The title complex exhibits good catalytic activity in Heck carbonylation of aryl halides with aniline or butyl alcohol under atmospheric pressure of carbon monoxide. When aryl iodides are used as the substrates
the substituted N-phenylbenzamides or butyl benzoates are obtained in good to high yields. This polymeric bidentate selenide palladium catalyst can be recovered and reused without serious loss of activity.Hence this paper presents a simple and practical synthetic method for the substituted N-phenylbenzamides and butyl benzoates.
