Poly(N—methylindole)films were synthesized electrochemically by direct anodie oxidation of N—methylindole in pure boron trifluoride diethyl etherate(BFEE).The oxidation potential of N—methylindole in this medium was measured to be only 0.95 V versus SCE
which was lower than that determined in acetonitrile+0.1 mol/L Bu4NBF4(1.23 V).Poly(N—methylindole)films obtained from this medium showed good electrochemical behavior and good chemical stability.Poly(N—methylindole)films in dedoped state is soluble in common strong polar organic solvents such as CH2Cl2
dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)
N
N—dimethylformamide(DMF).Its structure has been examined by infrared and UV—spectra.Structural analysis confirmed that the polymerization of N-methylindole ring occurred at the 2
3 positions.Fluorescent spectral studies indicated that the emission spectrum had a peak at 380 nm.
