Several new kinds of poly(p phenylene) have been synthesized and their structrue were identified by NMR

IR and element analysis. Side chains with different length have been grafted to the backbone of the poly(p phenylene)

which enlarged the configurational entropy of the conjugated polymers. As the result

the solubility of the polymers was greatly increased. All of them were able to be soluble in chloroform. The absorption spectra and fluorescent spectra of polymers were measured.
