The interaction of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB) and anionic copolymer derived from 3 sulfopropylmethacrylate
potassium salt(SPMS) and styrene(St) in aqueous solution has been studied. It was found that the viscosity of anionic copolymer/CTMAB solution rise suddenly in a specific molar ratio region of CTMAB/anion.The maximum value of the solution viscosity is closely related to the concentration of sulfo group in copolymer dissolved in solution.A gelation has been observed in a system composed of CTMAB and copolymer having less concentration of sulfo-group and the gelation is reversible according to the CTMAB/anion molar ratio or the water containing in system.A term "micelle crosslinking"was proposed for explaining the reversible gelation.
