Poly (propylene glycol-g-styrene) was synthesized by CuCl-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene(St) with chloromethylated phenoxy poly(propylene glycol) (CMPOPPG) as the macroinitiator. CMPOPPG was prepared by ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide and glycidyl phenyl ether (GPE) following by chloromethylation. The grafting polymerization exhibited characteristics of controlled polymerization. Graft copolymers were confirmed by size exclusion chromatography (SEC)
1H-NMR and microcoulometry. The molecular weight of the grafts can be controlled.The graft ratio was as high as 8.6.
