A poly (amido-amine) was synthesized by reaction of piperazine with methylene-bis-acry-lamide in aqueous solution. Factors influencing degree of polymerization are discussed. The poly (amido-amine) so obtained is tough
milky solid with high crystallinity. It is soluble in water
formic acid
acetic acid and phenol
but insoluble in alcohols
acetone
chloroform
ethylene dichloride and even dimethylformamide
dimethylsulfoxide. By refluxing in methanol
it reacts with butyl bromide and partially quaternized.
