An alternative microcrack-shear band chain model for the fracture of polymer materials was proposed. The fractal dimension of the fracture surfaces was derived and correlated with the fracture toughness of the materials. It was demonstrated through this model that the fractal dimension of the fracture surfaces would have an inverse trend with the fracture toughness
which was coincident with the experimental results of some polymer materials.
