Sequential block copolymerizations of styrene with propylene were carriedout with MgCl2-supported TiCl4 catalyst modified with rare earth compound of NdClx (OR)y (called SN catalyst) which was developed in our laboratory.Afterfractionating by successive solvent extraction with suitable solvents
the remainingcopolymer was subjected to extensive molecular and morphological characterization with 13C-NMR
WAXD
DSC
DMA
TEM.The results of these experiments indi-cate that the purified polymers are a crystalline diblock copolymer of isotacticpolystyrene and isotactic polypropylene
with 15~85 mol%styrene-unit content.The diblock copolymer has superior mechanical and thermal properties to their corre-sponding homopolymers.
