Photopolymerization of MMA was studied Kinetically using thioxanthone (TX)/ triethylamine (TEA)/oxygen system as initiator. The various factors influencing the polymerization rate were studied. Experimental results shown that polymerization rate is directly proportional to (TX)0.1 (TEA)0.3 and (MMA) and markedly depencent on the nature of solvents
as a results of the proximity effect of the lowest energy nπ and ππ excited states. The accelerating effect of oxygen in this system
especially in the presence of stearic acid resulted an increase in the quantum yield to 2.3 times.
