A series of in situ composites were obtained by melt blending a thermoplastic resin polysulfone(PSF) and four kinds of whollyaromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polymers which composed of terephthalic acid(TPA)
m phthalic acid(MPA)
p hydroxybenzoic acid (PHB) and a bisphenol monomer. There are four kinds of bisphenol monomers:4
4′ dihydroxy bisphenyl(BP)
4
4′ dihydroxybisphenyl methane(BPM)
bisphenol A (BPA)
4
4′ dihydroxy bisphenylsulfone(BPS)
corresponding liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) were represented by BP-LCP
BPM-LCP
BPA-LCP
BPS-LCP respectively.The morphology
thermal property and mechanical properties of these in-situ composites were studied. The results showed that BP-LCP and BPS-LCP could form fibrous structure in PSF resin
and skin-core effect appeared on their fracture surface.BPM-LCP and BPA-LCP only had spherical shape. The compatibility of these liquid crystalline polymers(LCPs)and PSF was poor. The mechanical properties of PSF were improved by adding these LCPs
