A polymerizable aromatic tertiary amine N-(2-methacryloyloxyethyl) -N-methyl-p-toluidine (MEMT) was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis
IR and 1H-NMR spectra. MEMT in conjunction with organic peroxide such as benzoyl peroxide (BPO)
lauroyl peroxide (LPO) formed a redox initiator. The overall activation energy of MMA polymerization using BPO/MEMT as initiator was evaluated to be 43.1 KJ/mol
which was much lower than that of BPO alone (E. = 85.8 KJ/mol). The rate equations of MMA polymerization were determined as follows.
